Associated Students Funding Board
The Clubs & Activities Office and the MultiCultural Center can provide funding for student-oriented campus events. Please take careful note of the guidelines mandated by each funding group. All events are reimbursed after an event with appropriate receipts. Receipts must be turned in within two weeks of the date of your event. Funds will be distributed upon receipt of original invoices or receipts. If you will be charging for your program, you may be expected to return part or the entire grant.
Types of Funding
Clubs and Activities Small Grant
Up to $600
Clubs & Activities Small Grants will fund up to $600 for events that promote the kinds of programs listed below. Preference will be given to programs that have secured support from other sources, including fundraising, donations and other sponsorships. - Leadership development;
- Service learning initiatives;
- Cooperative programs between two or more programming areas; and
- Club events open to the entire campus community.
Cultural Education Grants
Up to $400
Cultural Education Grants up to $400 are available for on-campus events and activities that promote cultural education, multicultural awareness, discussions of diversity issues, intercultural communication and/or cultural celebrations that will benefit the entire HSU community. Cultural Programming Grant
Up to $2500
Diversity Programming Grants up to $2500 are available to bring speakers/performers/artists to HSU for larger-scale campus events that promote cultural education and awareness that will benefit the entire HSU community. Funding Limitations
Because these funds are student generated through Associated Students, there are some limitations that need to be considered when applying for funding.
We CAN fund the following
- Publicity (flyers, posters, newspaper ads, etc.)
- Lodging for speaker/performer
- Supplies & Equipment rental for proposed events
- Nonprofit/nondiscriminatory events
- Fees for speaker/performer (people who are not HSU faculty, staff, administrators, or students)
- Travel costs for speaker/performer
We CAN NOT fund the following
- Equipment purchase or classroom activities
- Food or alcohol (except where food is an integral part of the program, but not the sole purpose of the event)
- Nonevent specific publications/pamphlets/booklets
- Tournaments/games/fundraising events
- Clothing/costumes/equipment
- Awards, wages, or specialty items for club members
Food Considerations
- Food Purchases must be an integral part of the program, not the sole purpose of the program/event (i.e., a dinner).
- Sponsored activities that include food purchase may be required to match with organizational fund raising.
- Food Purchases over $50, prior approval of the use of Grants - In House funds must be obtained from the A.S. Administrative Vice President in consultation with the AS General Manager.
- Note: If receiving a Cultural Education Grant the food purchase amount in item #3 is increased from $50 to $200.
Application Guidelines
- Request & Application for Funding must be typed and complete no later than the deadlines found on this page. Note: Events occurring after a grant deadline will not be considered for funding. The only exceptions are events occurring before the first grant deadline.
- Your club/organization advisor must sign the funding request form.
- Requests and Applications can be submitted to the Clubs & Activities Office or the MCC, House 55.
- Club/Organizational representative must be present at appointment time which will be emailed to the contact listed on the application. Failure to send a representative will likely result in a funding request denial.
- Any published materials or fliers advertising your event must contain the A.S. Logo and give recognition to the funding source(s). Failure to follow this guideline may result in the withdrawal of funding. A copy of the AS logo is available for download and hard copies are available at the Clubs & Activities office.
- All flyers advertising events must include an accessibility statement. This page has an example of appropriate language to be included on flyers.
- If your event is canceled or postponed, please contact the appropriate office (MCC or the Clubs Office) as soon as possible.
