Humboldt Orientation Program (HOP)

Welcome New Students!

The Humboldt Orientation Program (HOP) staff is very pleased to welcome you to Humboldt State University. HOP is a required program that will provide you with a strong start and the foundation for a successful experience at HSU.

Each HOP session will:

  • Provide you with academic and major advising
  • Provide assistance with schedule planning and registration for fall classes
  • Acquaint you with the Humboldt State campus and surrounding community
  • Inform you about degree requirements, course offerings, and academic support services
  • Provide an orientation for families and guests of new students
  • Provide social programs and opportunities to meet your peers

Peer advising is the heart of HOP, which is built around a series of peer group meetings led by current students (peer counselors) who are extensively trained. All of our staff members are eager and ready to help you through the process of joining the HSU community. See you soon!

Placement Testing

All new students must take the CSU English Placement Test and Entry Level Math Exam before HOP unless they are exempt. For more information, please go to the CSU Placement Test website.
