Family & Guest Orientation
For the next few years Humboldt State will be your student’s home away from home. We recognize that families and friends play a critical role in the success of college students. Our family and guest programs run concurrently with the HOP sessions. Our June and July Family and Guest Programs are two days for guests of Freshmen and one day for guests of transfer students. Our August Family and Guest program is two days for both Freshmen and Transfers.
The June and July family and guest programs offer families and guests the option of staying in the residence halls. The August family and guest program does NOT offer the option of on-campus housing for families and guests, since students will be moving into the residence halls that week. We strongly encourage families and guests who have not spent any significant time on campus to attend the June or July sessions. You will have the opportunity to talk to academic deans, faculty members, administrators, and current students. The Student Affairs staff will lead discussions regarding the issues students face which may include academics, housing, and campus involvement. During the session families and guests will attend receptions, program fairs and presentations to meet HSU representatives from all over campus and have plenty of time to connect with other Humboldt State families. We do not offer special programs for children or teenagers, but they are welcome to attend (see page 8 of the HOP Brochure, for info on Child Care).
The HSU Bookstore is pleased to provide families and guests with a Family and Guest Lounge, giving them a quiet place to relax and visit with other guests during the sessions. The Family and Guest Lounge features Internet and email access, newspapers, magazines, games, refreshments and more.
