Can Students stay on Campus for the Sessions?

Yes, participants can stay on campus for the June and July sessions. However, there is no on-campus housing available during the August session unless the student has already applied for on-campus housing for the academic year. Please reference the brochure (pg 7 & 8) to see the dates that you can stay in housing. If you need to come one night early because of EPT/ELM testing, please contact HOP at 707-826-3510 or by email.

Can Family/Guests stay on Campus for the Sessions?

Yes, family/guests can stay on campus during the June and July sessions. However, there is no on-campus housing available during the August session. Family/Guests will stay in different Housing areas than their students and can share rooms if they want. Please reference the dates available for family/guest members to stay in housing. If they need to come early due to EPT/ELM please contact HOP at 707-826-3510 or by email.

Can I register online for HOP?

Yes, the online registration form is available here.

What is the $50 fee for and when do I have to pay my fees?

The $50 is the Orientation fee that is charged to all students. This fee helps pay for the costs associated with orientation including: staff, one meal, and all the material received during the session. It is added into the student’s registration fees, so there is no up-front cost for JUST ORIENTATION. If a student or their family/guests are staying on campus, or signing up for outdoor adventures, they will need to pay for those at the time they send in their reservation form or sign up online.

Is HOP mandatory?

Yes, it is required for all new students (except for students seeking their 2nd Bachelor’s degree, students working on post bachelor classes, National Student Exchange students, returning students, graduate students, and students who are in the Educational Opportunity Program which has its own orientation). This is the only way to register for first semester classes.

When are HOP brochures going to be sent out?

The brochures should arrive by the end of April. If you are a student who has just been admitted, it will be sent to you with your admittance letter. You can also download a pdf of the brochure.

Do I need to bring my transcripts and catalogs from my other institution?

Yes, if there are any discrepancies about how a class transferred over, or whether you meet the pre-requisites for a class at HSU these will be huge time savers.

Do I need to bring all correspondence from HSU?

You need to bring anything that has your HSU ID number on it. If you have been in contact with the University for ANY REASON the letter will be your reference. You need not bring promotional material.

When do I need to arrive, and when can I leave?

If you need to take the ELM or EPT, you need to arrive the day before the session starts (the test begins at 8 am). If you don’t need to take any placement tests, check-in begins at 8:00am on the first day of the session. The sessions will probably end by 5:00 pm on the last day of the session. If you are trying to schedule a flight, anytime after 6:00 pm should be safe. If you need to stay on-campus the night before your placement test, please call 707-826-3510 or email us.

When will confirmation letters be sent?

Confirmation letters will be sent out in late May for people who register before then, and will be sent out as soon as they are entered into the database after May 19.
