Dear Community Member,
Thank you for being an amazing and inspirational leader to others! I am writing to inform you that we are looking for presenters for the upcoming 19th Annual HSU Leadership Conference. This conference is a valuable, student driven and scholastically focused endeavor of which I am pleased to be this year’s student coordinator. This year’s conference and keynote theme ask Why Can’t We All Get Along?! (Uniting our Campus Community through Multigenerational Communication) and Dr. Pamela Cox-Otto will speak and present workshops on this specific topic. This year’s overall conference goals include providing attendees with functional competencies to utilize while working and communicating with various populations, increasing awareness of multigenerational issues in higher education today, and informational experiences for leadership skill building. The Leadership Conference will be held October 10th & 11th 2008, with workshops going from 9 to 10:20 AM, 10:30 to 11:50 AM, 2 to 3:20 PM, and 3:30 to 4:50 PM on Saturday the 11th.
Dr. Pamela Cox-Otto, an HSU alum, is looking forward to coming back to speak and provide workshops this year’s conference. Pam has been teaching, training, writing, and speaking on topics including (but not limited to): web-based interactions, uniting college campuses, leadership and management skill building, marketing, and communication. Currently, Pam works with her co-founder and staff at Interact Communications to focus on researching, problem solving, and building understanding amongst individuals and groups in community colleges.
Presentations focusing on campus leadership skills, communicating with persons of various ages, and utilizing effective and professional forms of communicating a group’s message on campus or to the community are key to integrating this year’s theme with student leadership development at HSU. Professional Staff from Student Life and myself will be providing workshops on the HSU Club Leadership Experience, ways for students to get more involved on campus, and social justice topics relevant to a Humboldt State student leader.
Please inform any potential presenters and student leaders you know that this year’s Leadership Conference is looking for presenters and is open for student enrollment through the course, SP 380 (CRN 45021), or through an on campus club by registering with the HSU Clubs & Activities Office (located in the University Center). I look forward to seeing you there! Feel free to contact Alex Fonseca (826-6012) in Student Life or myself.
Thank You,
Tara Holloway
