Sex Offender RegistrationThis Information Bulletin provides notification of new registration requirements for sex offenders associated with California universities and colleges. Effective October 28, 2002, Assembly Bill 4 amended the California Penal Code (PC) by adding section 290.01, requiring all persons registering pursuant to PC section 290 to also register with the campus police of any university, college, community college or other institute of higher learning, at which they are enrolled, employed (with or without compensation), are located at, or reside. Registration is required within five working days of commencing enrollment or employment. Registration also is required of qualifying individuals working or volunteering on a campus for more than 14 days or for an aggregate period exceeding 30 days in a calendar year. A first violation of this section is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed one thousand dollars ($1000). The second and third violations are also misdemeanors punishable by up to one year in county jail, a fine not to exceed one thousand dollars ($1000), or by both the imprisonment and fine. All persons who are required to register must contact the University Police Department to process their registration. |
