Help Celebrate 40 Years of Supporting Students in Providing Volunteer Programs
Manila Community Center was the Y.E.S. House’s first service site. Tutorial started its tutoring program at the Manila Community Center back in 1968 as an experiment. Since then, the Manila Community Center and Y.E.S. have worked together on a number of service projects at the Manila Community Center.
Service at Manila will encompass a broad range of activities from gardening to clean up and painting. Manila will also be the location where you can take your children to play games with Y.E.S. volunteers from several programs. If you plan on going to Manila for service make sure to be prepared to work outdoors although a few activities will be in indoors.

CCAT originally started as a YES program in 1978. In 1981 CCAT broke away from the YES House and became its own entity moving into House 97; The Buck House, located behind the newly constructed Behavioral and Social Sciences building. Service at CCAT may be outdoors so be prepared. Here is a little more about CCAT from their website which can be accessed at:
http://www.humboldt.edu/~ccat/
CCAT is a live-in demonstration home and educational center for appropriate technology and resource conservation. We are located on the Humboldt State University Campus in Arcata, California. Motivated by an ethic of "education by example," CCAT offers tours, workshops, and opportunities for hands-on involvement to university students and the general public.
CCAT began in 1978 when a group of students, with the support of faculty and community members, renovated a dilapidated house on the university campus and initiated an experiment that continues today. CCAT works with fifteen HSU classes a year to incorporate new appropriate technologies into this living laboratory in sustainability.
Service at CCAT will likely include outdoor activities such as gardening and light construction so dress appropriately.
CCAT House 97, The Buck House, is located behind the newly constructed Behavioral and Social Sciences Building.

From the Potawot Indian Health Village website:
The history of the United Indian Health Services, Inc. (UIHS) in inextricably intertwined with the history of the Indian tribes in far northern California. The history of UIHS officially begins in the late 1960s when development was initiated as a solution to the ongoing health crisis of California's Indian population. Government health assistance for the region's native people had been terminated in 1954, leaving the Indian people with inadequate health resources. Fortunately, the '60s and '70s welcomed a growing awareness of Indian issues and set the stage for UIHS and other related programs.
In 1972 UIHS built a clinic at the Trinidad Rancheria. The American Indian community actively supported the construction with donations, volunteer labor and fundraising efforts. As demand for programs and services increased UIHS outgrew its space and began planning for its current Health Village. Potawot is the Wiyot tribal name for the Mad River, which flows just to the north of the Potawot Health Village. Today, even as a large, thriving medical center, UIHS continues to achieve its goal of incorporating traditional values and customs into its daily activities. CEO Jerry Simone explains, "The American Indian structures indigenous to the area are the basis for the design of the clinic. By placing culture first, and then integrating the clinical requirements, the design makes an emotional connection between two worlds."
Potawot Indian Health village is the newest addition to our list of volunteer sites. They have a community garden which always needs help. Service there will be outdoors most likely in the vegetable garden, herb garden or native plant restoration area so bring sturdy clothes and closed toed shoes.
