Program Directors & Office HoursMonica Perreira-Pico: MWF 2-3 T 5-6 Program MissionThe mission of EE is to provide information and assistance to the local community in promoting and improving the focus on care for the environment and sustainable living. Service, Goals & ProjectsEnvironmental Education works with groups in the community, especially elementary and junior high aged children. Service with elementary and charter schools usually involves assisting with their gardens, and working to improve their composting and recycling. Volunteers also pair up with other Y.E.S. programs to promote environmental awareness among their participants. They hope to get the participants "stoked" on the environment. Upcoming Events or ActivitiesIn addition to working on composting, recycling, and energy conservation at Y.E.S., the program is involved in helping with the maintenance of gardens in the community that include the Raven Project and Dows Prarie Elementary School. This semester, volunteers will develop skills and learn the appropriate standards for lesson plans that they will teach at local elementary schools. Environmental Education volunteers will be coordinating with organizers of the SLAM Fest to participate in the activities promoted at the Sustainable Living Arts and Music Festival in Spring 2008. ![]() Core sample reveals tree age |
