Mission StatementToo often in our society there is a negative stigma attached to the word disability, whether it is physical, intellectual, or developmental. Links for Life is a program determined to reduce the amount of social isolation for individuals with developmental disabilities. It will provide opportunities for those individuals to establish meaningful relationships with someone they typically would not meet. This program has the ability to increase self-esteem, confidence, and social interactions for those with and without a disability. It is our hope that Links for Life will lead to positive social change and empower everyone who participates in this program Service, Goals & ProjectsVolunteers will work with the Humboldt County Access and Resource Center (HCAR). Service often takes place once a week with different HCAR programs such as Bay Center, located in Eureka and Horizon Resources, in Arcata. Service times are flexible and may be on weekdays between 9-3 or on weekends. Volunteers may be matched with individual participants. Upcoming EventsPeople First Organization will be holding a conference in Eureka on Saturday, September 19th, advocating voting rights for adults with developmental disabilities. Volunteers will be helping to set up and will be attending the conference. Volunteers will participate in the HCAR Halloween Dance on Friday, October 23rd. |
